Dolly looking out the barn door.Dolly

Sadly, Dolly lost her battle to heal her troubled legs. She left this earth knowing that she was loved, and cared for. Rest in Peace, little one. You will be missed.

Dolly just arrived at Horse Feathers in late October 2009. The vet estimates that she's about four months old. She has crooked legs, is knock kneed, and has a hernia.

The veterinarian evaluated her and decided it was likely she could be helped by surgery. We have been raising money to cover the $2,000 for surgery, hernia repair, hospital stay, etc.

Dolly had surgery on Nov. 11 and, so far, is recovering well. During her recovery, Dolly must stay indoors and will require aftercare - bandages, medicines, special food for young foals, bedding - so we still need funds to help with all of that.

Thank you for all you've done for this little one - please keep sharinng her story and the need for help.

SPECIAL THANKS

We would like to thank Oakridge Equine Hospital in Edmond, Oklahoma, and, especially Brent A. Hague, D.V.M., DACVS, for giving Dolly this chance by doing her surgery.

We are so grateful for your help and willingness to take on Dolly's case.

Dolly got her stitches out and now just has a light bandage on her legs. We have ordered some more Elastikon; it's expensive but the best to use. She gets the bandage off in three days and we'll see how its going. Her little legs are shaved, but she is doing good. She is walking better this morning and wants to walk so she will get a supervised and quiet walk around the barn. Her tendons are tight so she is getting regular massages to help them. She is such a brave little girl. She tolerates her legs being worked on and is so patient. Most foals would be all over the place. We will see what changes happen as she grows.

Nov. 12, 2009

Dolly had surgery yesterday to repair her hernia and try to fix her front legs. The hospital called today and she is ready to be released. We won't know for period of time how much better her legs will get, it's an 'iffy' situation with these babies on their recovery and getting to them soon enough. We are thrilled that her hernia got repaired as that is a pretty dangerous thing to deal with when it involves intestines.

Please remember that Horse Feathers will still need help with her aftercare products - bandages, meds and so on - so fundraising needs to continue.

Here are a couple of photos of her in the OR.

Dolly's a sweet girl who likes people very much. When she wants more food or is feeling lonely, she's quite talkative.
