ASPCA GRANT

2008

Horse Feathers had been experiencing problems with flooding in the barn area, due to a low lying area near the barn, which would allow water to pool, and then run into the stalls, generally making a mess of things. Funding to remedy the situation was made possible through a grant from the ASPCA in late fall of 2008.

We thank them for their generous help, and support.

Inside the barn - the aisle way was built up, and a top dressing of aggregate was laid down, eliminating flooding, cutting down on dust, and providing better footing in the barn area - making it easier to work inside the barn.

Excavation was performed on the east side of the barn - previously a hill, which allowed water to run down directly into the barn and stalls. It is now a flat area, which eliminated the runoff, and flooding. Eventually, we hope to build an additional barn, and veterinary area, complete with an in house laboratory and triage area, enabling us to deal more effectively with the critical cases that make their way to us.

The hill was cut down, and leveled, in order to help facilitate water run off

Tiling was installed to further assist in the elimination of the problem

As an added bonus, our riding arena was enhanced by all of the extra dirt from the excavation!
